Wow, it’s October 18, 2010, and today is the 25th anniversary of the North American release of the Nintendo Entertainment System, the video game console in which Seamus, Link, and Mario began their long and illustrious careers. To put its age in perspective, 1985 is the same year that Calvin & Hobbes debuted in 35 U.S. newspapers, Ronald Reagan was sworn in as President of the United States, Bill Gates released Windows 1.0, and the Coca-Cola Company released New Coke. You could say 1985 was a pivotal year in North American history…and you’d be right!
So, happy Silver Anniversary, oh beloved front-loading box of video game wonderment!
And here’s a retro TV commercial featuring the NES, courtesy of NES Times (and the magic of YouTube). This one is the first one to air!
