• magisterrex Retro Games

I've been gaming since the days of Pong and still own a working Atari 2600. I tend to ramble on about retro games, whether they be board games, video games or PC games. Sometimes I digress. Decades after earning it, I'm finally putting the skills I learned while completing my history degree from the University of Victoria to good use. Or so I think. If you're into classic old school gaming, this blog is for you!

Advertising From Yesteryear…Crush, Crumble & Chomp!

Epyx knew the value of a good color advertisement in a gaming magazine, but also the value of cross-promotion.  They were one of the few gaming companies who recognized the synergy between players of Dungeon & Dragons RPGs and video games, and spent some of their advertising budget accordingly, with full-color pages in Dragon Magazine.  This particular advertisement comes from the September, 1982 issue, and it features the classic Crush, Crumble & Chomp! video game. Note that not a single game screen is shown, and the ad copy runs thick with hyperbole. Such was the norm in the glorious gaming days of yore.  As always, click on the image to see an enlarged version, and enjoy the trip into yesteryear!
